‘We Should Get Rid Of The Word SEVA…’ Kangana Ranaut Courts Controversy Yet Again, Is She Speaking Only For Herself ? Video Goes Viral

Actor‑turned‑MP Kangana Ranaut is back in the headlines after a frank interview clip lit up social media. In the viral video, now circulating across X, Kangana questions what voters expect from their elected representatives and says politics should move beyond term “seva” toward real support and nation building.

Her comments have sparked debate on whether she is speaking only for herself or for MPs facing limited funds and endless demands.

In this recent Times Now interview, Ranaut also laid out the spending rules she says bind members of Parliament. She claimed she oversees 17 vidhansabhas and said each gets only “15 to 20 lakh… 15 to 20 lakhs.”

She argued that much of the money flows through official channels. She said that “It comes to the Collector and it directly goes to the panchayat” and that MPs are barred from funding several categories, including disaster relief. She added, “We can’t pay to disaster relief.”

Kangana Ranaut Says We Need To Get Rid Of Word ‘Seva’

Kangana said, “Seva is for buzurgon ki seva jo log lachar haim. But most of the people that come to politicians, like 99.9%, and that all the MPs would agree, are for money.”

When the interviewer asked, “Ye to gareeb hain log…” Unko jo day‑to‑day jeene ke liye (bachchon ki education ke liye, ghar mein khana banane ke liye, chawal aap de denge, ration mein… sabzi bhi kharidni hai, daal bhi kharidni hai) that is that. Unke woh challenges hain, that is true. Aur unki seva nahin honi chahiye?”

Kangana responded, “Nahin, I think seva is a little… I think seva buzurgon ki honi chahiye, jo pichhade hue hain unki honi chahiye, jo specially‑abled hain unki honi chahiye. Sabki hi seva karenge to who will build this nation? I think what I sign up for as a politician is that – to empower people, you know. And that is precisely in my control: that I can in the Parliament, through jo bhi log agar mujhe dikhte hain – chahe woh meri constituency mein kuch work peeche reh raha hai, sabko jo hai access, chahe woh bijli ka ho, chahe paani ka ho, chahe woh 4G 5G ka, you know. So all these things I can be concerned with. But at the same time I think humein… we need a sort of a society where we are concerned with nation building also.”

Kangana Ranaut’s viral remarks split opinion because they poke at an uncomfortable gap – voters often approach leaders for immediate help and leaders say rules as well as budgets limit what they can directly give. By redefining “seva” as focused care for the truly vulnerable and pushing infrastructure for the rest, Kangana has opened a noisy conversation about what representation should look like in 2025 India.
