The iconic Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi has officially returned to TV, creating a wave of nostalgia among fans. Produced by Ektaa Kapoor, the show premiered from July 29 (yesterday) at 10.30 pm on Star Plus and JioHotstar. However, its comeback has also sparked comparisons with the current TRP leader Anupamaa, starring Rupali Ganguly.
Rupali Ganguly Angry On Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi Comparisons
In an interview with Telly Talk India, Rupali Ganguly shared her honest reaction to the ongoing buzz. She also expressed anger on comparsions between the two shows. Rupali said, “Ektaa ji ka badhapan hai ki woh itni achi achi baatein kar rahi hai… I don\’t understand how can you compare Anupamaa with Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi.”
She expressed the mutual respect between the teams and acknowledged the legendary status of Kyunki.
Even producer Ektaa Kapoor spoke out against the comparisons in a recent chat with Brut. She said, “These unfair comparisons… and pitting content against each other is so uncalled for.”
Kyunki’s Legacy Returns, But Will It Match Today’s Standards?
The original Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, starring Smriti Irani as Tulsi, was a trendsetter from 2000 to 2008. Its strong characters and dramatic storylines helped it become one of Indian TV’s biggest hits. With the reboot, the show now aims to connect with both old fans and new audiences.
The reboot taps into emotional memories while trying to compete in a much-evolved TV landscape. On the other hand, Anupamaa resonates with modern themes and viewers, thanks to Rupali Ganguly’s compelling performance. Though both are family dramas, they represent different eras.
Can Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi Reclaim The TRP Throne?
With both shows airing on the same channel during prime time, viewers now have more choice than ever. Whether Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi can regain its former TRP glory is uncertain, but its return has surely stirred interest. The nostalgia factor might give it a strong start, but sustaining it will depend on storytelling and audience connection.
Whether it tops the TRP or not, Smriti Irani returning to TV after 25 years has definitely created huge buzz. Fans and several celebs have showed excitement about her comeback.
