Formula 1: In a startling occurrence, AlphaTauri driver Pierre Gasly’s car caught fire after the Frenchman had entered the pit lane during Friday’s practise session for the Singapore Grand Prix. Gasly managed to exit the vehicle in a harrowing few seconds, but thankfully the mechanics moved promptly to put out the fire.

Gasly’s car caught fire quickly, however F1 published a video of the incident on their official Twitter account to show that he wasn’t hurt.

During FP2, Pierre Gasly experienced a fiery moment in the pit lane. Before the fire was put out, the Frenchman managed to flee the cockpit and injuries after his AlphaTauri vehicle caught fire unexpectedly.
The team has not yet provided any official information about what may have precipitated the incident. Gasly eventually finished the second practise session with success, though.

Yuki Tsunoda, one of his teammates, was unable to do so due to a fuel system problem.
While Max Verstappen and Red Bull battled on the return of Formula One to Asia, Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc pushed their Ferraris to a one-two in second practise.

Prior to the first practise session on Friday, the Dutch driver celebrated his 25th birthday with cake in the Red Bull team lounge. He then spent the whole of the second practise focusing on his front suspension.

Verstappen can retain his Formula One world title with a race win on Sunday.

Verstappen did make an appearance late in the hour-long session for one qualifying simulation lap. If other outcomes go his way, Verstappen can retain his Formula One world title with a race win on Sunday.

His time of 1 minute, 42.926 seconds was only good enough for fourth place, 0.339 seconds slower than Sainz’s 1 minute, 42.587 second lap of the Marina Bay street circuit.

Verstappen explained the reason for the delay in leaving the garage: “In FP2, we wanted to try a few things but it took a bit longer than we planned.”

Therefore, it is not truly representative.
