This global initiative was first proposed in 1999 at the World Summit Against Cancer in Paris and was officially recognised a year later with the signing of the Charter of Paris Against Cancer on February 4, 2000. Since then, governments, health organisations, and individuals worldwide have been working together to reduce the impact of cancer.

On this occasion, many cancer warriors and celebrities have come forward to share their experiences. Among them is popular TV actress Hina Khan, who is currently undergoing cancer treatment. She spoke about the significance of early diagnosis and the crucial role of schemes like Ayushman Bharat in ensuring timely medical care.

Hina Khan’s Inspiring Words on Battling Cancer

Famous TV personality Hina Khan, known for her roles in reality shows and daily soaps, recently opened up about her cancer journey. While speaking to news agency ANI on World Cancer Day 2025, the actress emphasised the importance of early detection and immediate treatment.

Hina Khan said, "When I was diagnosed with cancer, my treatment started within 2-3 days. I know how important it is to not lose time. I want to thank the government's initiatives like Ayushman Bharat. I have seen it in Tata Memorial Hospital and many other hospitals. People now have the chance for timely treatment, which is very important."

Her statement sheds light on the critical role of quick medical intervention in cancer survival. Delays in diagnosis and treatment often worsen the condition, making awareness campaigns like World Cancer Day 2025 even more essential.

Ayushman Bharat: A Lifeline for Cancer Patients in India

Cancer treatment is expensive, and many patients struggle to afford timely medical care. The Ayushman Bharat scheme, launched in 2018, has emerged as a game-changer in ensuring affordable healthcare, including cancer treatment, for millions of Indians.

Dr. Chezhian Subash, a well-known hematologic oncologist from Chennai, highlighted the scheme's impact. He said, "With Ayushman Bharat, there has been a substantial improvement in access to cancer care. Earlier, many patients had to abandon their treatment or face long delays. But now, they can receive timely and quality medical attention."

He further praised the initiative by stating, "I truly appreciate Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts in bringing affordable healthcare, especially for cancer patients who are among the most vulnerable in society."

How the Ayushman Bharat Scheme Benefits Cancer Patients

The Ayushman Bharat scheme, often referred to as the Ayushman Card, provides free health insurance coverage of up to ₹5 lakh per family per year. This has significantly reduced the financial burden on cancer patients, allowing them access to advanced medical treatments without worrying about expenses.

Since its launch, the scheme has expanded across India, covering over 10 crore households and benefitting around 50 crore people. It has particularly helped underprivileged patients receive timely care at renowned hospitals like Tata Memorial Hospital, AIIMS, and other top cancer treatment centres.

Many oncologists agree that financial constraints often lead to delayed treatment, which affects survival rates. With the Ayushman Bharat scheme, more people are now able to undergo chemotherapy, radiation and surgeries without financial hurdles.

The Importance of Early Detection and Awareness

As emphasised by World Cancer Day 2025, raising awareness about early symptoms and preventive measures is crucial in reducing cancer cases worldwide. Medical experts suggest regular health check-ups, a healthy lifestyle, and immediate consultation for any unusual symptoms to detect cancer at an early stage.

Hina Khan's statement serves as a reminder that timely diagnosis and treatment can save lives. Her words resonate with millions battling the disease, inspiring them to seek medical help without delay.
