Shoplifting by thieves remains a common crime in busy markets across India every day now. However, has anyone ever imagined a trusted police inspector carrying out such theft while on duty? Surprisingly, a viral video from Meerut shows exactly that suspicious behaviour by a uniformed officer.

In the clip, he quietly lifts four bags of clothes left unattended on the shop counter. It truly shocked viewers across India instantly.

Meerut's Viral Video of CCTV Exposes Theft: Inspector Seen Quietly Lifting Bags

Sachin Gupta, a local journalist, shared a CCTV viral video on X revealing the inspector's theft. In the footage, the officer picks up the bags of clothes that rested on the shop counter. He moves calmly as no one notices his deliberate action during busy business hours. When the shop owner demanded an immediate return of his goods, the inspector threatened him without hesitation.

Following the complaint, the matter reached the Senior Superintendent of Police for urgent review and investigation. Authorities have since removed the inspector from regular patrol duty, assigning him temporary line duty instead.

Public Outrage Erupts: Slamming Misuse of Uniform, Demand Strict Action

Social media users unleashed fierce criticism after watching the shocking incident unfold in the viral video. One comment demanded justice, asking, "Ye barkhast kyun nahi hote? Line haazir kar dete hain, fir do mahine baad wahi posting wapas de dete hain."

Another tagged official handles and questioned, “@Uppolice @dgpup Police wale dus rupaye ki chai ke paise nahi dete, toh do-teen hazaar ke kapdon ke paise kaise denge. Mana ki sabhi policewale beimaan nahi hote, lekin sau mein se paanch imaandaar bhi hote hain.”

A user pressed for legal action, "Why shouldn't he be arrested under the section 303 of BNS?" Lastly, one frustrated citizen wrote, "Seriously @Uppolice Do you hire from goons or you give that kind of training?" Public sentiment shows that mere administrative action won’t satisfy citizens—they want accountability, not token punishment.

Line Duty Enough? Debate Grows Over Whether the Punishment Fits the Crime

Many question if mere line duty constitutes fair punishment for this grave breach of trust. Critics argue that stealing under uniform demands stronger disciplinary measures than desk reassignment. Some demand formal suspension and criminal charges to deter similar misconduct in future incidents.

Others feel the inspector should face departmental court proceedings and immediate removal from all policing roles. The debate highlights a wider concern about accountability and public faith in law enforcement integrity following this viral video exposure.

The Meerut viral video has sparked a nationwide debate over police accountability. As the inspector serves line duty, many still demand full justice.
