Indian Illegal Immigrants: On February 5, 2025, a US plane carrying 104 Indian illegal immigrants landed at Amritsar Airport, marking the end of a painful journey for many. These deported immigrants returned to India under harsh circumstances, leaving behind shattered dreams, broken families, and mountains of debt.

Their ordeal began with hope—hope for a better future in the United States. However, their journey ended in despair. The deported individuals have shared their harrowing experiences, shedding light on the brutal conditions they endured during their deportation and the struggles they face now, back in their homeland.

The Painful Ordeal of Jaspal Singh

One such immigrant, Jaspal Singh from Hardorwal village in Punjab, shared the emotional and physical toll of being sent back to India. Jaspal was one of the 104 Indian illegal immigrants deported from the US. He recounted how he and other deportees were handcuffed and chained during their transfer. "We thought we were being taken to another camp, but then a police officer informed us we were going back to India," Jaspal said.

He revealed that he had initially entered Europe before reaching the US, where he was apprehended by US authorities. The agent who facilitated his journey to the US tricked him by offering a legal entry for a hefty sum. But the reality was far from what was promised.

Harwinder Singh’s Dangerous Journey

Another deportee, Harwinder Singh from Hoshiarpur, Punjab, shared the pain of his perilous journey to the US. Harwinder traveled through several countries, including Qatar, Brazil, and Peru, facing numerous life-threatening challenges along the way. “We crossed mountains, and the boat that was supposed to take us capsized in the sea. I saw a person die in the Panama jungle and another drown,” he said.

Harwinder, like many others, was lured into this risky journey by promises of a better life in the US. He and his wife, Kuljinder Kaur, had mortgaged their land and borrowed money to fund the journey. However, the dream of a better future turned into a nightmare, leaving them deeply in debt.

Debt and Heartbreak: The Toll of Illegal Immigration

The heartbreaking reality is that many of these deported Indian illegal immigrants have spent years saving money or borrowing from lenders to make the perilous journey. For Harwinder and his family, the cost of the journey amounted to 42 lakh rupees.

Kuljinder, Harwinder’s wife, is now demanding justice, seeking accountability from the agent who duped them. “We have lost everything. We only wanted a better future for our children, but now we’re left with debt and heartbreak,” she lamented.

The deportees' stories are not just about their journey to the US but also the pain and suffering they face upon returning. Many of them feel betrayed and their hope for a brighter future has been replaced with uncertainty and despair.
