Trinamool's Saket Gokhale detained again by Gujarat Police

The Gujarat Police arrested Trinamool Congress spokesperson Saket Gokhale from Delhi on Thursday late evening in connection with the alleged misuse of crowd funding. Gokhale was arrested by the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Branch and he is being brought here for legal process, a senior police officer said here. He will reach here by Friday afternoon. Gujarat Police has arrested Gokhale for the third time this month.

The case is related to the Morbi bridge accident


He was first arrested by the Cyber Crime Branch on December 6 for allegedly circulating fake news regarding the expenses incurred on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit after a bridge collapse in Morbi. On December 8, soon after getting bail from a court here, the Morbi police arrested the TMC leader again for the same offense registered there. He got bail the next day.

On 1 December, Gokhale shared a news clipping about information allegedly obtained through Right to Information which claimed that Rs 30 crore had been spent on Modi's visit to Morbi after the bridge collapse. Soon after getting bail from a court here, the TMC leader was arrested again for the same crime by the Morbi police on December 8. He got bail the next day.

According to a report in The Indian Express, a senior Delhi Police officer said: “Gujarat Police informed us that their team is coming to New Delhi in connection with a case and will conduct raids. Later they arrested Gokhale. We didn't know it was about his arrest. We were only told about the place of the raid and the team coming."
