A shocking video from Odisha went viral, allegedly showing two youths brutally thrashing a man and a woman with sticks on a busy road at Berhampur. The clip shows the attackers beating the victims in broad daylight, in full view of the public while the woman tries desperately to shield the man.

Hospitals overflow with victims

The injured were later rescued from the spot and admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital for treatment, reports said. Police said the violence may have been caused by an old grudge or a personal dispute but they are still investigating the trigger.

Public reaction to the event

Equally shocking to people as the assault itself has been the alleged inaction of bystanders. The video has caused anger online with many users questioning why those around were more concerned about making reels than helping the victims. The clip has also sparked a fresh debate on public safety and the social media culture of real-life violence.

Police response , case studies

Police of Baidyanathpur have started investigation and a case has been registered against the culprit to arrest him. Berhampur SP Sravan Vivek M said he was personally visiting the spot and keeping a close watch on the matter and that the accused would be nabbed at the earliest. The rapid police action seems to be an effort to placate public outrage and provide accountability. It’s a brutal reminder of the brutality of street violence, and the danger of public apathy in an age of viral content. Victims are even more exposed when attacks are logged for clicks rather than disrupted on the fly. For many viewers, the case is not just about one assault, but about a larger failure of empathy and responsibility in public spaces.
