Viral Video: A video of a delivery agent forcefully entering a Bengaluru woman’s apartment, even as she repeatedly refused to let him in, has gone viral and sparked a heated debate on safety at the doorstep. The woman told that the agent came to deliver her parcel and asked her to use her washroom on the pretext of an emergency.
Ignored repeated refusals
She says she refused several times politely, saying she doesn’t let strangers into her home and suggesting he ask a male neighbour instead. She said he ignored her objections, took off his slippers and entered the apartment without her permission.
What happens now
The woman said she felt unsafe, so she turned on her phone camera and left her front door open in case she needed to escape. She also claimed that when she left the washroom, the agent exposed himself to her, leaving her “shocked, violated, humiliated and completely unsafe” in her own home.
She posted the video online and urged the Bengaluru Police and local residents to help escalate the matter, emphasising that a woman’s refusal must be respected and no one has the right to enter a home without permission. She said her reasons for speaking out were twofold – to seek justice as well as warn other women in the same situation.
Demands for Accountability
There is a flurry of online demands targeting both the delivery platform (Flipkart/Myntra) and the Bengaluru Police to immediately identify the agent and take strict legal action.
The video has sparked a flurry of demands for the delivery platform and police to identify and take action against the agent, with the case likely to prompt further scrutiny of doorstep safety procedures for delivery personnel.
