Viral Video: Nobody was spared by the devastating Bengaluru floods, not the poor living in huts or the wealthy CEOs living in opulent mansions. Residents of high-end properties were trapped for the fourth day in a row on Thursday. The Bengaluru civic body was faulted for not being ready when heavy rains caused floods in the IT city, nearly drowning flats and villas worth several crores.

Powerful individuals and billionaires like Wipro Chairman Rishad Premji and Britannia CEO Varun Berry reside in Bengaluru’s affluent Epsilon neighbourhood. The co-founder of Big Basket and Byju’s Raveendran, two billionaires from contemporary startups, also reside nearby. There live 150 people, including Ashok Genomal, the MD of Page Industries (Jockey).

The population of Epsilon had to be evacuated in boats because overnight it went from being a Utopia of the Rich to nothing less than a drowned land. This is because nature views us all as equal. The nation’s multi-million dollar homes and the city’s wealthy residents are currently without electricity or water as an outcome of Sunday night’s intense rainfall.

Families Rescued

By Tuesday morning, all of the stranded families at Epsilon had been successfully saved and evacuated. Most of them have moved into rented homes or the homes of friends or family.
