Viral Video: In the Baldev Nagar police station area of the Ambala district, a man has been accused of assaulting a traffic officer and tearing apart his uniform after the latter pulled him over for speeding, which caused a collision.
Ashok Kumar, an exemptee sub-inspector (ESI), was being physically assaulted in a video that went viral on social media platforms. The guy is identified as Lavish Batra of Agarwal Colony, Bhatinda.
According to sources, police have begun an inquiry into the attack after receiving a complaint from an ESI level traffic cop. “A video of a man beating a policeman went viral on social media. Upon verification, it was found that the incident took place on October 13 and the accused was stopped by police for overspeeding. An FIR has been registered against him. The probe is underway,” said Ambala superintendent of police (SP) Jashandeep Singh Randhawa. Watch Video:
In the viral video, a young man named Lavish can be seen hitting ESI Ashok Kumar while sporting a yellow t-shirt. Later, it is also discovered that the ASI outfit is tattered. According to ESI Ashok Kumar's complaint, he is employed with the traffic police in Ambala and was assigned to do challan duty in front of Gurdwara Manji Sahib (on NH-44) on the Rajpura-Ambala route on October 13.
He added that an SUV with the Chandigarh registration number (CH01AM3383) arrived from the Rajpura side at approximately 9 a.m. and struck two bikes. After being hit by the four-wheeler, three people commuting on two Patiala registered motorcycles received injuries. We rushed to take care of injured persons,” said the traffic cop.
The SUV's driver, Lavish, however, jumped out of his vehicle and grabbed the officer as he was turning to look at the injured persons. After that, according to the complaint, the accused beat Ashok and tore his uniform. The accused quickly left, leaving his SUV behind as the crowd of onlookers gathered at the scene. He stated that the injured were taken into the hospital in Ambala for treatment.
