Viral Video: Foreign visitors describe a terrifying experience they had at the hands of Pakistan‘s Punjab police in a startling video that has gone viral on social media. One of the victims, Alex, posted a video on social media that shows instances of police torture and physical abuse that seem to have no obvious reason.

“We have been assaulted by the police multiple times, had guns pointed at us and even been chased with a stick. All of this without any proper reason or provocation.” says the narrator, who claims to be the victim.

An enthusiastic cyclist who has been around the world since 2022, Alex tells the story of the upsetting things that happened to him when he was recently travelling through Pakistan. Alex, accompanied by two other riders, describes how they had multiple problems with dishonest police officers who were appointed to be their companions.

Cyclists Seek Alternative Escorts

They looked for other ways to find more cooperative escorts since they were frustrated with the mistreatment, but when they did, they encountered violence. The three continued to pursue justice in spite of being beaten and having items stolen, including Alex’s camera. Though greeted with doubt and derision, Alex was able to obtain video proof of their experience with the aid of locals, and he also requested support on social media.

Cyclists Face Blackmail and False Narratives from Police

Instead of being helped, though, they were subjected to more blackmail from the police, who tried to paint a misleading picture of the incident by giving them presents and forcing them to sign fake statements of pleasure. The man and the other two riders were even asked by the police to applaud “Punjab Police Zindabad,” which means “Long live Punjab Police,” on camera, but they refused.

Alex encountered censorship and intimidation techniques as he attempted to draw attention to their predicament through mainstream media channels. Journalists were reluctant to cover the topic due to threats they perceived from the authorities.

After revealing the identity of a few of the police officers participating in the attack, Alex ended the video. This infuriated Pakistani social media users and raised concerns about the legitimacy of law enforcement organisations.
