Karnataka Viral Video Shows Shocking Behaviour of Female Passenger
In a now viral video on social media, a Karnataka woman grabs the collar of the ticket conductor amidst the crowd. The anger in her face could make one wonder what wrong the ticket conductor had done to her. However, the real story is completely different here. The woman had purchased a free ticket to Tumakuru, but she was trying to get off earlier at Srirangapatna.
Once the ticket conductor caught her red-handed, she took it as her choice to set her own rules. The conductor made a valid point that the passenger should get the ticket for the destination they wanted to go to, even if it is free. Otherwise, the checking authority can question the conductor for the misuse of free tickets. But instead of apologizing, she defends her point by grabbing the collar of the conductor to play the victim card.
Public Outrage Over Misuse of ‘Empowered Woman’ Claim
After the Karnataka viral video surfaced online, netizens have been mocking the woman’s self-proclaimed concept of empowerment. Some comments sarcastically point out, “Clearly she’s unstoppable. Rules, logic, consequences, nothing can catch her.” Concern has also been raised for the conductor, as it’s feared he might face false accusations in the future.
One comment stated, “So shocking, please help this driver @RLR_BTM avre, soon he might have to face fake cases! Hope @KSRTC_Journeys stands by him!” Many have openly criticized the woman for tarnishing the entire notion of women’s empowerment, calling her actions a false display of courage. “Some kind of fake sense of courage…. Sane women have to condemn this aggression…. Every action of dishonour and false sense of violence will be detrimental to women and their path of empowerment….”
Others have shamed her for disrupting the ride and taking advantage of free rides. One user wrote, “Shamelessly taking free rides, empower employees, they are your asset for @KSRTC_Journeys success story”, applauding the conductor’s swift action to prevent such unlawful behavior.
Free Tickets for Women Leads to Public Harassment
The Karnataka government has taken many initiatives to empower women. Freeing the bus services is also one of them. But these free services often lead to unnecessary harassment of the bus conductors and the general public.
The KSRTC workers’ federation of Karnataka has complained about several wrong uses of these free tickets named ‘Shakti’. Women are reported not to pay fare on buses that are not eligible for free rides. Transgender women, on the contrary, report facing discrimination when getting their free rides.
The viral Karnataka incident, thus, is more than one single moment of conflict. It is a mixture of confusion and frustration with the ongoing process. Authorities need to set clear rules and spread greater awareness to mitigate such confusion.
