Maha Kumbh Viral Video: Heart Wrenching! 80 Year Old Woman Roams Directionless in Prayagraj For 3 Days, 4 Sons Disown Her Existence

A heartbreaking story from Maha Kumbh 2025 has surfaced, where an 80-year-old woman named Rekha Dwivedi has been wandering alone in Prayagraj for the past three days, abandoned by her own children. A viral video shared by journalist Rajesh Sahu of Dainik Bhaskar has brought this tragic incident to light, sparking public outrage and emotional responses across social media.

Sons Refuse to Take Responsibility

According to the report, Rekha Dwivedi’s four sons are well-established professionals, with one working as a lawyer in the High Court and another serving as a lecturer. However, when contacted through the Lost and Found center at Maha Kumbh, they refused to take her back. In a shocking response, one son reportedly said, “Humein koi matlab nahi, namaste” (We have nothing to do with her, goodbye).

This stark neglect stands in contrast to numerous devoted children at Maha Kumbh, many of whom are seen carrying their elderly parents for kilometers to help them take a holy dip at Triveni Sangam. Some pilgrims are even acting like modern-day Shravan Kumars, bringing their aged parents in baskets from far-off places. However, Rekha Dwivedi’s plight reflects the dark reality of abandonment faced by many elderly parents in today’s society.

Waiting for Sons Who May Never Return

Despite the rejection, the elderly woman refuses to blame her children. Struggling to walk and visibly exhausted, she stated, “Mere bete nalayak nahi hain, bas majboor hain” (My sons are not worthless, they are just helpless). She still hopes they will come searching for her, yet after three days of waiting, no one has come forward to take her home.

Public Reaction and Social Media Outrage

The viral video, originally shared by Sachin Gupta on X (formerly Twitter), has drawn sharp criticism from netizens. Many people expressed anger and grief, condemning the inhuman act of abandonment. Some have urged authorities and NGOs to step in and provide the elderly woman with shelter and support.

As Maha Kumbh 2025 continues to witness historic footfalls, this heart-wrenching incident serves as a grim reminder of the struggles many elderly people face, even after dedicating their lives to their children. While countless families uphold traditions of devotion and care, stories like Rekha Dwivedi’s expose the painful side of neglect and abandonment in modern society.
