Viral Video: A cargo ship from Egypt capsized in Turkey, spilling several containers into the water. Social media users have been sharing a video of the Sea Eagle going to one side and drowning. According to sources, that cover shipping news, it was docked at Turkey’s Iskenderum port and the process of unloading the boxes was underway when the event occurred. The yacht was built in 1984, the outlet added, and the event happened on Saturday.
According to the video of the incident, a port lift truck was emptying the containers when the 3120 DWT cargo ship capsized. Hearing a whistling sound, the individuals who were near the ship hurriedly backed away.
The crew and those dumping the cargo were stunned when the ship suddenly sank under water. According to a tweet from Turkey’s Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the Togo-flagged ship’s 24 containers were lost, and a small oil leak was also discovered.
Fortunately, the crew was all safely evacuated, and there were no reported injuries. According to another outlet, the government later released a statement in which it claimed that the ship had stability problems and that attempts to balance it had failed. Turkish port authorities are looking into the accident’s cause. The operation to remove the container and discharge the ship’s fuel is currently underway.
The ship had reached Iskenderum from Mersin, also in Turkey, on September 17. As per the crew, all onboard systems were functioning normally till then.
