FIR Registered Amid Allegations of Misinformation

The Delhi Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) on Sunday in response to concerns by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) about the authenticity of the video. The BJP says the video was made to change Mr. Shah’s words from a political rally.

BJP’s Assertion and Denouncement of the Video

Amit Malviya, BJP IT cell head says that the video has been edited to mispresent Mr. Shah’s comments about reservation quotas for Muslims in Telangana. Malviya said that the video is completely fake and could lead to large-scale violence. He said that Mr. Shah’s comments were meant to address the issue of unconstitutional reservations based on religion for Muslims after making sure that they were evenly distributed among SC/STs and OBCs.

Congress’s Allegations and Response

The video became more controversial when people on social media, including those from Congress, shared the fake footage. Some people said the video showed that the BJP wants to get rid of SC/ST reservation quotas. BJP leaders have criticised the Congress for spreading false information to create social discord.

Action Taken by the MHA and Delhi Police

The MHA told the Delhi Police about the fake video of the Home Minister and gave them a detailed report. The IFSO Unit of the Delhi Police Special Cell has started an investigation into where the fabricated video came from.
