Ecuadorian Man changes gender to win custody of his daughter

To gain custody of his daughters, an Ecuadorian dad changes his gender.

Ecuadorian Man changes gender

The 47-year-old René Salinas Ramos is battling for custody of his daughters, who are now living with their mother, in court.

Ecuadorian Law favors mothers

Ramos claimed that when it comes to child custody disputes, the laws in his nation favour mothers over fathers.

Changes Gender: His new gender identity: “FEMININO”

So he made the decision to alter his gender legally. His new gender identity is now recorded in his official documents as “FEMENINO.”
Ramos said that his girls and their mother were cohabiting in a hostile atmosphere. He claimed to have not seen them in more than five months.

“According to the law, the lady is the one who is entitled. I am a woman at this time. I now also consider myself to be a mother, “Ramos spoke to the local media.

Added he, “I am confident in my sexuality. I want to have children so that I may provide them with the care and love that mothers provide.”
In Ecuador, he claimed, “being a father is punished and viewed primarily as a provider.”

Trans Activists Upset

His daughter will stay with their mother until the situation is addressed, he was informed when he made his case before the Cantonal Board for the Protection of Rights.

Trans activists in the nation are angered by Ramos’ intention to change his gender in order to win custody of his children.
“This man’s private matter, to acquire custody of his daughters, isn’t the spirit of the law,” Diane Rodrguez, director of the Ecuadorian Federation of LGBTI Organizations.

We worry that the Assembly will reverse course and start passing laws that are unfavourable to us, she continued.

“Although the optional gender change and sex change in the identity card of trans people is now a reality, it is vital to note that the norm is not fully met with,” read another statement from Rodriguez’s organisation.

“We are amazed that a plainly cisgender man has passed with apparent ease the optional gender change in the ID,” the statement said, “despite if we have decried that there have been difficulties with the recognition of gender and sex of Trans individuals in the same city of Cuenca.”

Ramos expects Backlash

Ramos, who anticipated the negative reaction, claimed that his conduct was “not against a person, not to damage someone, but rather to battle against this system that has stigmatized the fact that I was born a man.”
