Baba Ramdev, a yoga expert, has given his negative views on the Trump Tariff, the new 50% duty imposed by US President Donald Trump on Indian exports. Ramdev, terming it as political bullying, advised the Indians to stop buying American goods and brands on a large scale.
Explanation by Ramdev of the Term “Political Bullying”
Ramdev characterised the tariff as “robbery and tyranny.” He was of the view that no Indian should eat at American fast-food facilities or drink their beverages. In his opinion, the US move is unjust to Indian businesses and should be met with an all-Indian consumer boycott as a response.
The Use of the Boycott Strategy as a Warning
Ramdev mentioned that the best response to the issue would be complete abstention from US goods. He clarified that if US products are boycotted by Indians, this could lead to economic turmoil in the US, rising inflation, and thus, Trump getting the rollback of the tariffs decision.
Brands Were Part of Ramdev’s Call for Boycott
In his speech, Ramdev mentioned a few US companies such as Pepsi, Coca-Cola, KFC, McDonald’s, and Subway. He advised the Indians to discontinue using their products for food and drinks and go for the local alternatives instead.
The Scenario of the Tariff Projection
This new tariff is effective from August 27 and has already raised concern among the industrial sector that depends heavily on exports to the US. The likes of steel and aluminium will feel the impact of the extra duty more. Some traders are keeping a close watch on the developments.
Ramdev’s Engagement for Joint Consumer Volition
At the end of his speech, Baba Ramdev mentioned that a massive boycott of American imports is the greatest solution to the “Trump Tariff.” He argued that if Indians boycott American brands as one unit, the US economy would receive a very tough blow, which, if any, would be Trump’s last option. His opinion here is limited to what he publicly says.
