Amazon: Major layoffs begin, about 10,000 workers likely to be affected

Amazon: According to reports, Amazon has begun making cuts throughout its departments. The information was released a day after a report that said Amazon would fire close to 10,000 workers. Although Amazon has been very quiet about the layoffs, employee posts on LinkedIn seem to indicate that they have already started in earnest. According to sources, managers of Amazon brought staff into meetings and told them they had two months to hunt for new employment.

Several workers have used Linkedin to discuss their termination from the organisation

According to a story in the Wall Street Journal, Amazon reportedly slashed 10,000 positions across all departments. Several workers have used Linkedin to discuss their termination from the organisation. The majority of the employees who have written about their layoffs work for Amazon’s Lab126, which manages the Kindle e-reader, Luna cloud gaming platform, and Alexa virtual assistant business.

Although obviously grieved, one employee remarked, “Of course, I am saddened, yet optimistic about the future because I know this means good change for me and others on my team.”  An further worker who managed software development at Amazon disclosed that his entire team had been wiped out. Bhasker Reddy wrote on Linkedin, “My team has been impacted by Amazon layoffs!! Strong SDEs (Java/C#/GoLang) who are looking for open positions, please comment if you have any positions open. We shall reach out to you. Kindly like, comment or share for better reach. Thanks much!.”

A lady of Indian descent who worked in software development in the US stated on a job board that she was open to new career prospects. “Due to the nature of my visa, I have a limited time to look for new work opportunities,” the woman wrote.

The layoffs have not yet been formally confirmed by Amazon. However, executive vice president of Amazon Beth Galetti hinted to the layoffs in a post. “We anticipate keeping this pause in place for the next few months and will continue to monitor what we’re seeing in the economy and the business to adjust as we think makes sense”.
