Xi Jinping

Chinese President Xi Jinping has reached Russia's capital Moscow on a three-day official visit. This is Xi Jinping's first visit to Russia after the Russia-Ukraine war. After the meeting, Vladimir Putin told Xi Jinping that he had seen China's proposals to resolve the Ukraine conflict and treated them with respect. He also said that he would have an "opportunity to discuss this issue" during Xi's visit. On the other hand, Jinping has said that he is confident that Putin will get the support of the Russian people in next year's presidential election.

Are China and Russia allies of each other?

China and Russia have not committed to defending each other with military support, but the two countries are close strategic partners.

Relations between the two countries deepened during the Russo-Ukraine War as Russia became increasingly isolated from many other countries.

According to The New York Times report, Chinese officials have said that the relationship between the two is currently at a "historic high".

This partnership is driven by the goal of trying to weaken American power and influence.

Relations between China and Russia have not always been so good. The two sides were fierce rivals in the 1960s and clashed in 1969 over the border dispute.

Both countries are also competing for their influence in Central Asia. An area that the Kremlin has long seen as its own. China is building railroads, highways and energy pipelines to former Soviet republics such as Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, which still rely on Russia as an important security partner.

How good friends are Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin?

According to the report, just before the start of the Ukraine war in February 2022, Xi Jinping and Putin publicly declared that their countries' relations had "no boundaries".

Jinping has called Putin his best friend many times. In 2018, during an economic forum in Russia, the two ate Russian pancakes and vodka shots together.

In the year 2019, on Xi Jinping's 66th birthday, Putin gifted him a cake and a big box of ice cream.

In an article published in a Chinese newspaper on Sunday, Vladimir Putin said that the relationship between the two has been long and fun. He has met about 40 times in recent years and always finds time to talk at events.
