In 2017, public interest in UFOs and extraterrestrial life re-emerged after several government and Pentagon officials released videos captured by US Navy of unknown objects to the media. In May 2022, Congress held its first hearings on UFOs but ended up saying that the objects claimed to be UFOs were likely drones.
A Pentagon report concluded that the suggested spike in the sightings of UFOs in the 1950s and 1960s were possibly attributable to tests of advanced US space technology and spy planes. The report that was issued by All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) of the Pentagon had noted that public opinion about UFOs was possibly swayed by pop culture.
