Imran Khan Granted Bail Until June 8, Islamabad High Court Releases Former PM in Hate Speech Cases

Imran Khan: Tuesday saw the granting of bail to Imran Khan in relation to accusations brought against him until June 8, 2023. The Islamabad High Court granted Khan’s request for release. Cases against the former Pakistani prime minister were filed in response to a speech he made criticising government institutions.

Lahore High Court Deliberates on Cases in Punjab Province

Following Imran Khan’s detention in a corruption case last week that caused violent rallies by his fans, the Lahore High Court (LHC) earlier today reserved the judgement on Imran Khan’s petition for bail in all cases brought against him in Punjab province. In the meantime, Imran Khan was granted bail by the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Tuesday till May 19 in two cases involving the killing of Zile Shah and acts of violence outside Zaman Park. Imran Khan’s request to be excused from the hearing today was also granted by the ATC.

Imran Khan’s Bail Plea Faces Opposition as Punjab Government Raises Concerns

Imran Khan submitted the plea on Saturday, one day after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) granted him bail. The judge asked about Khan’s absence at the beginning of the session. Khan’s attorney responded to the question by stating that Khan would show up in court by 11 am. The interim government of Punjab’s attorney opposed the bail request, claiming it was not permissible. The Corps Commander House in Lahore was attacked and set ablaze on May 10, and the Punjab police also filed five other FIRs against Khan for encouraging his supporters to assault and damage government structures and military sites.

Imran Khan and Others Charged with Murder and Terrorism for Storming Jinnah House

For storming the senior military commander’s home known as “Jinnah House” in the Lahore Cantonment last Tuesday, Khan, his deputy Shah Mahmood Qureshi, and other others have been charged with murder, terrorism, and 20 other terrible crimes. The demonstrators destroyed the home of the corps commander in Lahore and invaded the army headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi for the first time in Pakistan’s history. Ten people were killed in the violent battles, according to the police, while 40 members of Khan’s party allegedly died when security officers opened fire on them.
