Imran Khan: Former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, faced another arrest on Tuesday, merely hours following his release on bail by the Islamabad High Court in connection with the Toshakhana case. He is now under judicial custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, August 30th. Amidst this news, it has also been reported that he has been living in a rather luxurious life inside the jail.
Imran Khan rearrested in Cipher case
He has been arrested in the cipher case, invoking the Official Secrets Act. Imran Khan stands accused of exploiting a confidential diplomatic cable (cipher) for political motives during his tenure as Pakistan’s leader. On August 5th, a trial court in Islamabad found the 70-year-old chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, guilty and handed him a three-year prison sentence.
Earlier today, the Islamabad High Court revoked Imran Khan’s three-year sentence in the Toshakhana corruption case, leading to his release from jail. Despite this development, Imran Khan remains ineligible for political involvement for a duration of five years, effectively disqualifying him from participating in any upcoming elections.
Imran Khan’s luxurious life in Jail
According to reports, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, is reportedly being provided with traditional dishes like desi chicken and mutton cooked in ghee during his stay at Attock Jail. The disclosure came to light through a report presented by the attorney general’s office on behalf of the jail administration. This report was submitted in response to a request from the highest court, which had sought details about the living conditions of the former prime minister.
Highlighting the facilities provided, the jail administration presented details that the convicted prisoner was being held in a cell measuring 9×11 feet. The court was informed that this cell had undergone whitewashing, with the entire floor being cemented and a ceiling fan installed.
Regarding the washroom used by the former premier, it was expanded to dimensions of 7×4 feet, and the wall was extended to a height of five feet. Additionally, a fiber door measuring 2-12×5 feet was fitted.
Heavy Police Staff deployed for Imran Khan
Enhancements were made, including the installation of a new toilet seat, a Muslim shower, a tissue stand, and a stainless steel tap. For ablutions and face washing, a wash basin complemented by a sizable mirror was incorporated. The report noted that Imran Khan’s dietary preferences were being met. He receives desi chicken twice a week, as per his request, and mutton, prepared with ghee, is also included in his meals. To ensure the former prime minister’s secure confinement, a total of 53 jail personnel from Punjab have been temporarily assigned to his custody at the jail.
