Yoga is very important to relieve stress and keep the body healthy. In the midst of increasing busyness, stress is increasing in our lives, which is having a negative effect on both our brain and body. International Yoga Day is celebrated every year on 21 June to maintain physical and mental health. Yoga makes the body flexible, as well as helps in building muscle strength and body tone. International Yoga Day is also known as World Yoga Day.

History of International Yoga Day

The day was celebrated for the first time on 21 June 2015. The initiative to celebrate this day was taken by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. The United Nations passed a resolution in December 2014 declaring June 21 as International Yoga Day. Yoga Day is celebrated every year to increase the importance of this day. On this day, the importance of yoga in life is explained by organizing programs around the world. On the occasion of Yoga Day, from common people to celebs, they explain the importance of this day by doing yoga.

“On the occasion of the 9th International Day of Yoga, the Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations cordially invites you to join a Yoga session led by H. E. Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi,” according to an event announcement ahead of Goa mega celebration.

Yoga session will take place on June 21 from 8 am to 9 am on the expansive North Lawn of the UN Headquarters, where a bust of Mahatma Gandhi, a gift from India to the UN, was installed last December during India’s Presidency of the UN Security Council.
