IRGC: The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has consolidated its powerful over the Islamic Republic of Iran. IRGC has sidelined the Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and is now taking a series of sensitive and vital leadership calls. Its prominence surged after the whereabouts of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei were left unknown to the world. It is believed in the political circles that Mojtaba is either dead or severely injured by airstrikes conducted by the joint forces of the United States and Israel.

IRGC-The Growing Rule

According to media reports, the IRGC has blocked presidential appointments while pushing the moderate Pezeshkian into a complete political deadlock. Moreover, IRGC is reportedly preventing government reports from reaching Khamenei while ignoring meeting requests between the cleric and the political leadership.

The power of IRGC in Tehran is further bolstered by its supreme control over the ballistic missile program of Iran and the Basij, the volunteer paramilitary network of Iran.

Several sources have reported that the IRGC is now in complete control of vital state functions. United States President Donald Trump has commented that Mojtaba is either dead or in a critical condition while Pete Hegseth, the US defence secretary, has asserted that Mojtaba has been “disfigured.” These turns of events have created a political vacuum in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Emergence Of Ahmad Vahidi

A few days back, the Iranian President wanted to appoint Hossein Dehghan as intelligence minister. However, this move failed due to pressure from Ahmad Vahidi, the IRGC Chief Commander. Vahidi took over the reins of the IRGC after Mohammad Pakpour was killed during opening phase of the ongoing war.

In another development, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has commented that Tehran is not negotiating as of now with the United States despite claims of message exchanges, including direct communication from US envoy Steve Witkoff.
