Joe Biden to deliver major policy speech on Afghanistan

Taliban has begun its assault on Afghan cities as US forces continue to depart from Afghanistan after decades of camping in the conflict-torn country waging their promised “war on terror.”

Taking note of the changing scenario, the White House announced that US President Joe Biden will deliver a key policy speech on Afghanistan today, as well as an update on the troop drawdown.

Tomorrow morning, President Biden will meet with his national security team to receive a periodic update on the progress of our military drawdown from Afghanistan, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said on Wednesday.

Early tomorrow afternoon, the President will make comments on our continued drawdown efforts and ongoing security and humanitarian assistance to the ANDSF (Afghan National Defence and Security Forces) and the Afghan people, Psaki said.

On Thursday, Biden informed reporters at the White House that he will discuss the troop withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Psaki told reporters aboard Air Force One that one of the reasons the President decided to withdraw troops from Afghanistan is because he does not believe there is a military solution to a 20-year war.

“He has long felt there was not a military solution. Diplomatic negotiations,” she said.
