Legendary Pakistani comedian Umer Sharif passes away

Pakistani comedian Umer Sharif has passed away, confirms wife Zareen Umer’s sister. He was battling serious health problems. The popular Pakistani comedian breathed his last in Germany.

Three days after his stay in Germany, Pakistan’s legendary comedian was expected to resume his travel to the United States (US) for medical treatment, but the departure postponed due to critical condition, reports Geo News.

Sharif’s health had become a subject of national concern after he made a video appeal to Prime Minister Imran Khan to help me get visa to travel abroad for medical treatment. According to a report by Dawn, the Pakistan government and the Sindh government assured him help and sanctioned Rs 40 million for his treatment.

Regarded as one of the greatest comedians in the sub-continent, Umer Sharif had started his career as a stage actor at the age of 14. This was back in 1974. Six years later, for the first time, he released his plays on audio cassettes. Acting, comedy, direction, production, he did it all.

He was a very popular face on TV too. Having working the showbiz for close to 50 years, he has given many performances and live shows. Sharif was fondly called the ‘king of comedy’. He even received the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz for his contribution to the entertainment industry.

Sharif received national awards for best director and best actor in 1992 for Mr. 420. He received ten Nigar Awards and remains the only actor to receive four Nigar Awards in a single year.
