Pakistan: DG Inter–Services Public Relations (ISPR), Pakistan’s Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry is facing backlash after he winked at a female journalist during a press briefing.
The clip, which has been widely circulated in social media, shows journalist Absa Komal pressing DG ISPR on his allegations against ex-PM Imran Khan that he is “anti-state”, “a national security threat”, and acting “at the hands of Delhi.”
Absa asked how things are different from the past and can any development be expected in the future. To this, DG ISPR quipped that Imran is also a mental patients and then smiled and winked at the female journalist.
A visible face of the Pakistani Army, Chaudhry has built a reputation for holding press briefings with anti-India rhetoric.
The Pakistan DG ISPR’s Interesting Background
Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry is the son of Sultan Bashiruddin Mahmood, a declared terrorist and aide to Osama bin Laden.
During Operation Sindoor, the DG ISPR had claimed that his country “never targets civilians.” He had also remarked then that any future Operation Sindoor-style action would invite deeper strikes inside India, including against eastern strategic and economic hubs.
The tirade of Chaudhry’s was in response to Imran Khan labelling Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir a “mentally unstable person”. Chaudhry also alleged that India media accounts that were linked to India’s Research and Analysis Wing and social media networks in Afghanistan were amplifying the anti-army rhetoric of Khan online.
