Altaf Hussain Requests PM Modi

Exiled MQM founder Altaf Hussain has urgently called on India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi to raise the issue of Pakistan’s harsh treatment of Muhajirs. Muhajirs are Urdu-speaking migrants who moved from India to Pakistan after Partition.

Speaking live from London, Hussain praised Modi for his vocal support of the Baloch people. He urged Modi to show the same courage in defending the Muhajir community.

Altaf Hussain Seeks Support From PM Modi

Hussain shared that Muhajirs have suffered decades of discrimination, violence, and state-backed oppression in Pakistan. He said, “Since the Partition of India, the military establishment in Pakistan has never completely recognised the Muhajirs as legitimate citizens.”

He added that the MQM has fought for the rights of marginalised groups despite brutal military crackdowns. Hussain claimed that over 25,000 Muhajirs have died and thousands have gone missing during these operations.

Hussain also criticised a recent pro-Pakistan event in Dallas, Texas. There, Pakistan’s Consul General in Houston, Aftab Chaudhry, played a video accusing Hussain and the MQM of acting as Indian agents. Hussain called this a disinformation campaign designed to weaken the Muhajir cause and silence their voices.

Hussain said, “The Muhajirs are unarmed and endure dire living conditions. For over 61 years, they have faced repeated cycles of economic hardship and physical destruction. Their plight can no longer be ignored.” He asked Modi to highlight the Muhajirs’ struggle on global platforms and work with international human rights groups to secure their rights and safety.

Rising Unrest In Balochistan

Hussain’s appeal comes amid growing violence and protests in Balochistan, a southwestern province of Pakistan. The Baloch nationalist movement demands greater autonomy and an end to alleged state abuses.

Tensions have escalated with recent attacks and military operations. On May 21, a suicide bombing targeted a school bus in Khuzdar, killing eight people, including children. Pakistan has accused India of backing militants in the region, a claim India denies. Meanwhile, security forces have cracked down on protests demanding the release of missing activists.

Human rights groups warn of extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, and torture in Balochistan. The United Nations has called for Pakistan to halt violence and respect human rights.
