Job cuts at Twitter: As expected, the process of job cuts across Twitter has begun after Elon Musk took over reigns of the micro-blogging platform. Musk has asked Twitter managers to prepare a list of all those who need to be laid off, reports said.
Even before Musk completed his $44 billion acquisition of Twitter on Thursday, concerns were expressed that he would eliminate 75% of the workforce. The multi-billionaire tycoon denied that that the elimination would be that high but he also didn’t reveal his job cut plans.

Cuts ordered
“Musk, who completed a USD 44-billion deal to buy Twitter on Thursday, has ordered the cuts across the company, with some teams to be trimmed more than others,” an NYT report said, adding that the “scale of the layoffs could not be determined” at Twitter that has around 7,500 employees.
According to NYT reports, axing of employees could be before November 1 when “employees were scheduled to receive stock grants as part of their compensation.”
Twitter’s leadership has already been axed. This includes the chief executive officer Parag Agrawal, finance chief Ned Segal and two senior legal executives Vijaya Gadde and Sean Edgett.
Core product
According to reports, Elon Musk may keep the CEO position with himself for now.
Earlier Musk had earlier hinted at cuts when he said he wanted to focus on the core product. “Software engineering, server operations & design will rule the roost,” he tweeted earlier this month.
On Friday he tweeted, “Twitter will be forming a content moderation council with widely diverse viewpoints. No major content decisions or account reinstatements will happen before that council convenes. To be super clear, we have not yet made any changes to Twitter’s content moderation policies,” he added.
Free bird
Soon after taking over Twitter, the Tesla CEO had posted a series of tweets. “The bird is freed”, “Spoiler Alert. Let the good times roll”, “Living the Dream. Comedy is now legal on Twitter”. He also updated his Twitter description to “Chief Twit.”
Musk also promised that he would transform Twitter by loosening the service’s content moderation rules, making its algorithm more transparent and nurturing subscription businesses. He also said many employees will be laid off.
Musk reassured advertisers in a message on Thursday that Twitter wouldn’t devolve into “a free-for-all hellscape, where anything can be said with no consequences!”
“The reason I acquired Twitter is because it is important to the future of civilisation to have a common digital town square, where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner, without resorting to violence,” Musk said in the message.
