US: Barack Obama Tackles Heckler at US Rally, Says “Right now, I’m talking”

US: Barack Obama, the former US President, engaged a heckler in Detroit, Michigan, at a political rally. He was discussing societal differences and animosity in American politics when a man twice interrupted him.

Obama remarked during a speech to a crowd supporting Democrat Governor Gretchen Whitmer, “We have got politicians who work to stir up division to try to make us angry and afraid of one another for their own advantage. All of this gets hyped up by social media.”

Heckler continued to yell at Obama

In response to the recent attack on the 82-year-old husband of US Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Obama observed, “Sometimes it gets dangerous.” After then, the heckler continued to yell at Obama while he was discussing the growth of aggressive political speech.

Obama continued, “But it creates a dangerous climate if our discourse about each other gets that harsh, when we don’t just disagree, but demonise them, making wild, ludicrous claims about them”.

At this point, the unnamed man yelled “Mr. President,” prompting Obama to respond.
“Sir, this is what I’m saying. We’ve got a process that we set up in our democracy. Right now, I’m talking. You’ll have a chance to talk sometime later. You wouldn’t do that in a workplace,” Obama addressed the heckler as the heckler’s voice was muffled by raucous applause and “Obama, Obama” chants.
