Sudan: S Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs for India, tweeted that an operation to evacuate its residents from the war-torn Sudan is under way and that 500 of them have already arrived in Port Sudan. Operation Kaveri is the name of the rescue effort.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar Tweeted, “Operation Kaveri gets underway to bring back our citizens stranded in Sudan. About 500 Indians have reached Port Sudan. More on their way. Our ships and aircraft are set to bring them back home. Committed to assist all our bretheren in Sudan.” On Saturday, the first officially declared evacuation of civilians arrived in Saudi Arabia with more than 150 travellers from several countries. There were citizens from 12 other nations there in addition to Saudi Arabia, including India. The three Indians who were evacuated by Saudi Arabia were crew members of the Saudi airline that had been fired upon as fighting broke out last week on the ground.
All US personnel and their families have left the US Embassy
On Sunday, India declared that INS Sumedha had arrived in Port Sudan and that Air Force C-130Js were on standby in Jeddah to evacuate its citizens. 388 people, including Indian citizens, were evacuated by France earlier today from 28 different nations. According to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, all US personnel and their families have left the US Embassy in Khartoum, and operations there have been “temporarily suspended.”

On Sunday, the WHO tweeted a statement from the Sudanese Health Ministry stating that 3,700 people had been hurt and at least 420 people had died as a result of the conflict.
