Punjab News: MP Malvinder Kang Condemns US Directive on Sikh Soldiers, Urges Centre to Intervene

“The world should not ignore the sacrifices and valor of Sikh soldiers in global wars,” he said, emphasizing that such directives undermine the community’s centuries-old spiritual and cultural traditions.

Aam Aadmi Party MP from Punjab, Malvinder Kang, has strongly condemned the recent directive issued by the United States government, which reportedly requires Sikh soldiers to shave their beards and cut their hair. He termed the move an attack on the religious identity, heritage, and values of the Sikh community and urged the Indian government to take immediate diplomatic action.

Kang stated that the Sikh contribution to global wars and peacekeeping missions has been immense and must never be disregarded or disrespected. “The world should not ignore the sacrifices and valor of Sikh soldiers in global wars,” he said, emphasizing that such directives undermine the community’s centuries-old spiritual and cultural traditions.

Central Government and the Ministry of External Affairs to initiate urgent dialogue with the US administration

He further appealed to the Central Government and the Ministry of External Affairs to initiate urgent dialogue with the US administration and demand the withdrawal of the directive. “This decision hurts the sentiments of millions of Sikhs worldwide who take pride in their faith and identity,” Kang added.

The AAP leader reiterated that Sikhism’s core identity—marked by unshorn hair and beard—is not just a personal choice but a fundamental religious principle. He called for global recognition and respect for this unique identity, asserting that freedom of religion must be protected universally.

This statement from the AAP MP reflects Punjab’s firm stand in safeguarding the dignity and rights of the Sikh community on international platforms.
