Qatar News Indian Navy: Government Intensifies Efforts for Repatriation of Navy Veterans Sentenced to Death

Qatar News Indian Navy: Admiral R Hari Kumar, Chief of the Indian Navy, affirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to bringing back seven retired naval officers and a sailor sentenced to death in Qatar.

Navy chief assured comprehensive support and efforts:

The Navy chief assured that comprehensive support and efforts were underway, with close collaboration between Indian authorities and relevant agencies. Notably, a court of appeal in Qatar accepted the Indian government’s plea against the death sentence in November, signaling ongoing diplomatic engagement.

“The ex-naval officers in Qatar are veterans…and we are interested in ensuring their welfare is taken care of. I want to reassure you that the Indian government is putting all-out efforts to ensure that they are brought back,” he said in response to a question.

Held on unspecified charges since August 2022

The veterans, distinguished in their naval careers, faced accusations while working for Al Dahra Global Technologies and they are held on unspecified charges since August 2022. Despite challenges, consular access has been granted, allowing contact with their families, emphasizing the Indian government’s dedication to safeguarding their welfare.
