Russia: 9 dead, 1 missing as apartment block collapses in Sakhalin Island

Russia: The regional governor announced on Saturday that nine people had been discovered dead amid the debris of a five-story apartment building that had partially fallen on Sakhalin, a Russian Pacific island. Emergency workers were still looking for one person who was still missing.

Reason for collapse

According to Russian news organisations, a gas explosion looked to be the reason of the collapse. As per TASS who was quoted saying to a source in the emergency services, a 20-litre gas cylinder attached to a cooking burner blew up.

The Investigative Committee of Russia declared that it was looking into the causes.
