Russian airstrikes kill 3 in Kyiv, Moscow says it has repelled Ukrainian incursions

Russian airstrikes Meanwhile, airstrikes from Russia on Kyiv have killed 3 people.
The 3 killed include a 9-year-old child and her mother. Both were locked out of an air raid shelter.
In recent months, Russia and Kyiv are trying to weaken each other before a long-awaited Ukrainian counter-offensive on Russia.
Moscow invaded Kyiv on February 22, 2022, and since then there has been no let up in the resultant violence. Tens of thousands have died in the war and several thousands have been rendered homeless.

“We have repelled counter-attacks”

Meanwhile, Russia’s defence ministry said it had repelled 3 Ukrainian counter-attacks on the border town of Shebekino. Moscow also accused Ukraine of deploying “terrorist formations” while attacking Russian soil.
It was referring to Russian Voluntary Corps, a far-right paramilitary force comprising Russian speakers that support Ukraine.
Kyiv has denied its military is shelling Shebekino. However, the area’s governor Vyacheslav Gladkov says the Ukrainian military had attacked and destroyed a dormitory and an administrative building.
At least nine people were injured in this attack and hundreds were being evacuated from Shebekino. Reuters says it is trying to verify the accounts from either side.

“Stopping the West against Russia”

Russia attacked Ukraine because the latter “was going back on the Minsk Accord”. This agreement protected Russian-speaking people living east of the Dnieper River.
Moscow has also accused the West of including Ukraine in NATO, a military set-up that is anti-Russia. Should Kyiv join NATO, the latter will be obliged to place its nuclear missiles on Ukrainian soil thereby threatening Russia. So far, NATO hasn’t taken in Ukraine, but the latter is urging Washington to take an early decision.
