Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Italy’s Giorgia Meloni are once again the internet’s favourite duo. A new photo of them from the G7 Summit in Canada (shared by Meloni herself) has reignited the viral “Melodi” meme trend on Indian social media. Netizens are flooding X (formerly Twitter) with hilarious reactions.

This isn’t the first time their interactions have gone viral. Last year, Meloni shared a selfie video with Modi at the G7 Summit in Italy, which sparked the original Melodi storm. She followed it up with another selfie during COP28 in Dubai, captioned, “Good friends at COP28 #Melodi.”
The camaraderie between the two leaders, while light-hearted online, has symbolised a growing diplomatic bond between India and Italy. Many see the repeated friendly exchanges as signs of positive global engagement.
PM Modi On Viral Trend Linking Him With Giorgia Meloni
Earlier this year, Modi was asked about the “Melodi” memes during a podcast with Zerodha’s Nikhil Kamath. Laughing off the attention, he said, “Wo toh chalta rehta hai.” It was a rare public comment on the viral attention surrounding his foreign meetings.
PM Modi landed in Canada earlier in the day from Cyprus to attend the G7 Summit. He was received by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and later held bilateral discussions. This is Modi’s sixth straight G7 appearance and his first trip to Canada in ten years.
