It was seen as a big win for Indian diplomats when 26/11 terror attacks' alleged mastermind Tahawwur Rana was finally extradited. He reached India last night and was immediately presented before the Patiala House Court. NIA sought a 20-day custody of Rana, but the court granted custody for 18 days.
There are speculations that Rana will be questioned about his connections with LeT and his role in planning the 26/11 terror attacks, where 160 innocents lost their lives. His interrogation is expected to start around 10 a.m. in the presence of 12 special officers of the NIA and the DG himself.

How Big is Rana’s Extradition for India? Victory for Modi’s Diplomacy

After Kasab, Rana is only the second convict of 26/11 who has been caught alive. Rana was earlier cleared of charges related to any direct involvement in the 26/11 terror attacks by a U.S. court. Back then, it was seen as a diplomatic failure for India. Then Gujarat CM Narendra Modi had also posted on X (then Twitter) regarding this. But today, after 14 years, Rana’s extradition to India—when Narendra Modi is the Prime Minister—is not only symbolic. It’s a victory for Mr. Modi and India’s foreign policy under his leadership.

Take a look at the top 5 big foreign policy wins for India under his leadership.

Decimating Pakistan

Once, Pakistan was seen as a key player in Southeast Asia. Countries like the U.S. once saw Pakistan as a potential partner in maintaining the global order. But those days are long gone. Rana’s extradition is a major blow to Pakistan’s terror factory. From trade to tariffs, it’s a very tough road for Pakistan. Moves like URI and Balakot have already destroyed Pakistan’s terrorism caucus. Today, Pakistan depends on bailout packages from the IMF and World Bank for survival, and almost nobody takes any interest in their appeals on any major global platform.
Indian diplomats and foreign policy have made Pakistan extremely vulnerable and irrelevant in the global order. Pakistan today stands alone, and PM Modi’s leadership has been remarkable in this alienation of Pakistan.

Tahawwur Rana’s Extradition After 17 Years of 26/11

The extradition of Tahawwur Rana to India marks a significant diplomatic victory. Indian diplomats have showcased exceptional persistence, legal acumen, and global coordination in pursuing justice for the 26/11 attacks. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s strong leadership and unwavering commitment to national security have empowered such efforts on the world stage. This achievement not only honors the memory of those lost in Mumbai but also reinforces India’s determination to bring every terrorist to justice, wherever they may hide.

Buying Russian Oil Amid Russia-Ukraine War

After the start of the Russia-Ukraine war, when almost the whole world alienated Russia—including the U.S. and Europe—India took everyone by surprise when we decided to buy Russian oil. It was not like the old times when we were too shy and weak to openly showcase our diplomatic alignment. Buying Russian oil was a strong signal to the West and a firm hand to Russia.
Buying oil from Russia was much more than a simple trade deal. In terms of optics, we boldly clarified our stand. The personal bonding between Mr. Modi and Putin was also an underlying factor in this deal.

Standing Tall in Front of the U.S.

When American President Dwight D. Eisenhower came for his South Asian visit in 1959, Delhi was last on his list. He visited Pakistan and Afghanistan before India. A former American president once used racial comments for India. But those days are long gone.
Today, India does not seek U.S. validation on any of its internal and external decisions. From buying weapons to nuclear explosions, we stand independent. America didn’t allow any country to buy S-400 missiles from Russia, but an exception was made for India. Our ties with the U.S. are now better and bolder. PM Modi received an overwhelming reception from both Republican and Democratic administrations.

Strategic Diplomacy Shields India in U.S. Tariff War Under Modi's Leadership

Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decisive leadership, Indian diplomacy played a crucial role during the U.S. tariff war. While China faced tariffs up to 100% and Pakistan up to 50%, India was subjected to only a 26% tariff—reflecting the strength of Indo-U.S. relations. This strategic advantage showcases how India’s global image and economic importance have grown under Modi's governance, ensuring fairer treatment and shielding Indian exporters from the harsher impacts faced by others like China and Pakistan.
