Turkey Earthquake: Disaster strikes again, 5.5 magnitude aftershock jolts the nation that’s struggling to recover

Turkey Earthquake: On Saturday, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre reported that Central Turkey had experienced a 5.5 magnitude earthquake that occurred at a depth of 10 km (6.21 miles). This event follows a 6.4 magnitude earthquake that struck the southern Turkish province of Hatay on Monday, February 20, 2023, as the Turkish government works to manage the aftermath of the earthquakes that caused significant damage to the country two weeks prior.

Widespread devastation across the country

The 7.8 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Turkey’s Kahramanmaras region on February 6 was followed by over 40 aftershocks, which resulted in widespread devastation across the country and surrounding areas.

Continuous havoc of earthquake in Turkey

Also On January 6, Turkey experienced a pair of earthquakes with a magnitude of 7.8. The number of casualties resulting from the earthquakes that occurred two weeks prior has risen to 41,156, as reported by the nation’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), and the figure is likely to increase further, given that 385,000 apartments have been destroyed or significantly damaged, and there are still many people whose whereabouts are unknown.
