UK Home Secretary Priti Patel announces resignation from Cabinet

In a letter to departing Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Monday, UK Home Secretary Priti Patel announced her resignation from the Cabinet. This comes soon after Liz Truss was named the winner of a Conservative Party leadership contest to become the next PM. On Tuesday Liz Truss will take office.

It was widely anticipated that the senior minister of Indian descent, who was close to Johnson, wouldn’t be on Prime Minister-elect Truss’ top team.

She congratulted newly appointed Prime Minister Liz Truss on being chosen as the nation’s new leader and pledged to support her in her role as Prime Minister. “I will support many of the programmes and issues I have advocated for both within and outside of government from the backbenches”, she continued.

The 50-years-old Priti highlighted her achievement I the post in her resignation letter address to Borish Johnson. She highlighted about a Migration and Mobility Partnership signed with India, among other countries, to tackle illegal migration.

Expressing deep honour to have worked as the Home Secretary of Uk for the last three years, Priti said, “I am proud of our work to back the police, reform our immigration system and protect our country. “

“It has been a great honour and privilege to serve the country with you during your premiership,” Patel wrote for outgoing PM Boris Johnson.
