Vlodomyyr Zelenskyy : Ukrainian President Vlodomyyr Zelenskyy has said that his country’s counteroffensive against Russia is on.
He was responding to a question in a press conference about Putin saying that the Ukrainian counteroffensive has begun.
Zelenskyy was in a press meeting alongside the visiting Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
The Ukrainian President didn’t say what stage the counteroffensive is in.

Putin says the Ukrainians have suffered significant losses in their counter-attack, which many observers were expecting for a long time.
While addressing the reporters, Zelenskyy sounded upbeat. “I am in touch with our commanders of different directions every day,” the Ukrainian President said.
He even took the names of his top military commanders, adding, “Everyone is positive. Pass this on to Putin.”
Heavy battles in the east
According to AP, Ukraine’s military leadership has said in a statement it has launched attacks in the country’s eastern areas. The statement didn’t give any details but said the Russians are defending themselves and attacking Ukrainian positions in southern Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions.
Ukraine has received billions of dollars worthof military equipment from the United States, Germany, France and other Western nations. Russia- Ukraine conflict watchers expect Kyiv to use this equipment in a counteroffensive against Russian forces.
Moscow is currently controlling 18% of Ukraine’s territory. The former has also annexed a couple of Russian-speaking regions in the east. Ukraine wants to regain these territories, hence the counteroffensive.
A Ukrainian minister has said that the epicentre of the counteroffensive is the eastern part of the country, particularly in the Donetsk region.
Ukrainian nuclear reactors are safe
Ukraine has five nuclear reactors and all of them are safe.
The country’s energy agency Energoatom said in a statement that the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant is in “cold shutdown” and poses no threat to the surrounding areas.
