US: Donald Trump Slams CNN of Defamation, Sues the Network for $475 Million in Damages

US: According to the news agency The Associated Press, former US President Donald Trump filed a lawsuit against CNN on Monday, demanding USD 475 million in damages, alleging that the network defamed him in an effort to sabotage any upcoming political campaign.
The case, which was submitted to the US District Court in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, primarily focuses on “The Big Lie” on Trump’s erroneous allegations of widespread fraud, which he claims cost him the 2020 presidential election to Joe Biden. However, CNN did not respond right away.

Trump frequently attacked CNN in his capacity as US president

Trump frequently attacked CNN in his capacity as US president, which was well received by his conservative supporters. Similar to this, he has unsuccessfully sued significant IT businesses. His lawsuit against Twitter for removing him from its platform after the US Capitol uprising on January 6, 2021, was dismissed earlier this year, according to AP.

There is no proof of the election fraud Trump claims, according to a large number of federal and local election authorities from both parties, prominent former campaign staffers, a lengthy list of judges, and even Trump’s own attorney general.

He alleges being referred to as “The Big Lie,” a phrase having Nazi overtones

In his case, he alleges that since January 2021, CNN has referred to him more than 7,700 times as “The Big Lie,” a phrase having Nazi overtones. He claimed that it was meant to frighten, anger, and trigger people.

In a formal statement, the former US president predicted that other groups will face similar legal action. Additionally, he stated that he might take “necessary action” against the House committee looking into his supporters’ attack on the Capitol on January 6.
The lawsuit was filed at the same time that he is considering running for president in 2024, according to the Associated Press.

According to multiple published stories, Chris Licht, the new head of CNN, discreetly told his news staff in a meeting more than three months ago to avoid using the word because it is too closely associated with Democratic efforts to demonise the previous president.
