EDUCATION: Jharkhand’s girl becomes first from her primitive tribe to clear Jharkhand Class 10 exams

A girl from Birhor tribe in Jharkhand's Hazaribagh becomes the first to clear the Jharkhand Class 10 exams 2021.

A 16 year old girl for the first time of the Birhor tribe,which is on the verge of extinction,cleared the Jharkhands Class 10 exams 2021.The girl became the first female to do so in her primitive tribe.

Birhor,is one of the primitive tribes who trace their origin to Jharkhand.There are nearly 11,000 people of this tribe residing in the state currently, and the numbers are declining day by day.

Aditya Kumar,Deputy Commissioner of Hazaribagh said it was a great achievement for the district as Birhor girls and boys,despite their best efforts, are unwilling to attend classes,but Payal on contrast took great interest in studies.

Aditya Kumar also said that they will provide assistance to Payal and other girls who want to pursue education.He also added that the state government is providing financial grants and stipends to them for higher education.

Payal willing for higher studies

Payal cleared the exams in the second division and as far as she is concerned, the district administration will see that she gets admitted to the best institution so that she can pursue her higher studies. 

“I feel proud for being the first female student amongst the 36 tandas of Hazaribagh district to pass Class 10 examination”Payal told PTI.Payal was a student of Pariyojna Ucha Vidyalay in Kandsar in the remote area of Katkamsandi block of the district. 

Payal’s mother Sundari Devi thanked the principal of the school,Upendra Narayan Singh,by saying that his guidance inspired the girl to continue with her studies and achieve success.

The mukhiya of the Kandsar village,Ram Kumar Mehta,also expressed happiness and rewarded the girl.In the district the population of Birhors is 11,000,out of which,very few have completed their formal education.Most of them are interested in their traditional rope-making,hunting,etc in the jungles, he said.

Block Education Officer of Katkamsandi Jagannath Prasad said that thi ssuccess of Payal will encourage other Birhor’s girls to pursue studies.
