Asaduddin Owaisi: AIMIM chief and Member of Parliament Asaduddin Owaisi has sharply criticized the central government after the passage of three amendment bills in Parliament today. According to Owaisi, these bills have the potential to weaken representative democracy by allowing the automatic removal of a minister if they are detained or kept in custody for 30 days.

Calling it a direct assault on the separation of powers, Owaisi accused the government of turning India into a police state, where opposition leaders and ministers could be targeted through misuse of legal and police machinery. He argued that such provisions are dangerous for parliamentary democracy, as they leave room for arbitrary action that could sideline elected representatives under the pretext of detention.

” This Is Not About Accountability, It Is About Control “

“This is not about accountability, it is about control. The government is creating a system where opposition voices can be silenced without due process. It undermines the Constitution and the very foundation of democracy,” Owaisi remarked while addressing the media.

The separation of powers—between the executive, legislature, and judiciary—is one of the cornerstones of India’s democratic framework. Owaisi fears that these amendments, instead of strengthening governance, might pave the way for greater centralization of power and reduced checks and balances.

Political observers note that the debate around these bills reflects growing concerns among opposition parties about erosion of democratic freedoms. Many have raised alarms that such laws could be selectively applied against those who question the government.

The controversy is expected to intensify in the coming days, as opposition parties unite to demand reconsideration of the amendments and to highlight what they see as an alarming drift towards authoritarianism in Indian politics.
