Deepinder Goyal: As the gig workers and pay scale debate unfolds on social media platforms, Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal is at the forefront of the discussions.
In this latest post on X, Goyal remarked the gig industry needs lesser regulations so more gig workers can enter the industry.
What did Deepinder Goyal Said?
Goyal remarked companies such as Zomato offer insurance as well as timely, fair and predictable wages to thousands of gig workers across the country.
Goyal added class divides have kept the poor invisible to the rich for centuries. The gig economy brought the two before reach other.
The Zomato CEO said the poor are no more hidden and cannot be shunned. He added they are at the doorsteps today – in the heat, traffic or rain, even on borrowed bikes or two-wheelers. Goyal added this is perhaps the first time that the consuming class and the working class are interacting face-to-face, transaction after transaction.
Goyal went on to add that every doorbell ring today is a reminder of systemic inequality. Goyal added that banning gig jobs would not solve anything but remove livelihoods of thousands of hard-working and deserving individuals. He added that banning gig work would put the rich back to their old comfort, dissolving guilt and paving the way for convenience to return without faces.
Goyal went on to thank delivery partners who stood their ground and showed up despite several cases of intimidation during the recent strike calls on Christmas and New Year Eve.
