India’s First Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Begins Service Today

The Vande Bharat Sleeper Express consists of 16 modern coaches and offers three classes of travel — Third AC, Second AC and First AC. Designed for long-distance overnight journeys, the train aims to redefine comfort and speed on Indian Railways’ premium routes.

Route, Train Number and Travel Time

The train operates as Train No. 27576 from Kamakhya to Howrah. It departs Kamakhya at 18:15 hours and reaches Howrah at 08:15 hours the next morning, completing the journey in around 14 hours. The return service follows a similar overnight schedule, offering faster connectivity between the Northeast and eastern India.

Only Confirmed Ticket Holders Allowed

Passengers must note that only those with confirmed tickets will be permitted to board the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express. Waiting list or RAC passengers are not allowed to travel on this premium sleeper service, making advance booking essential.

Ticket Cancellation Rules Explained

Indian Railways has laid down clear cancellation norms for the Vande Bharat Sleeper train. If a ticket is cancelled more than 72 hours before the scheduled departure, 25% of the fare will be deducted as cancellation charges. Cancellations made between 72 hours and up to 8 hours before departure will attract a 50% deduction. If a ticket is cancelled less than 8 hours before departure, no refund will be granted.

IRCTC Catering and Onboard Facilities

Catering services on the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express are provided as an integral part of the journey. IRCTC will supply one litre of Rail Neer packaged drinking water and a newspaper free of cost to every passenger. In addition, freshly prepared meals will be served based on the journey duration between the origin and destination stations, ensuring a comfortable overnight travel experience.

Luggage and Travel Comfort Guidelines

Passengers are advised to carry luggage within permissible limits as per Indian Railways norms to ensure safety and convenience inside sleeper coaches. The train is equipped with modern interiors, enhanced safety features and improved suspension systems, offering a smoother and quieter overnight journey compared to conventional trains.

With the launch of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express, Indian Railways has taken a major step toward upgrading long-distance night travel, combining speed, comfort and premium services for passengers.
