The initiative is expected to significantly strengthen Punjab’s healthcare system
Speaking at the inauguration, the leadership highlighted that the scheme is designed to reduce the financial burden of medical expenses on families and ensure timely treatment without worrying about costs. The initiative is expected to significantly strengthen Punjab’s healthcare system by offering cashless treatment and expanding choices for patients.
The Mukhyamantri Swasthya Yojana is being seen as one of the most ambitious healthcare initiatives in the state, reflecting the Punjab government’s focus on people-centric welfare policies. With its extensive coverage and high insurance limit, the scheme aims to bring quality healthcare within reach of every household in Punjab.
The launch of the Mukhyamantri Swasthya Yojana marks a significant step towards universal health coverage in Punjab, especially for economically vulnerable and middle-income families. By including both government and private hospitals, the scheme ensures that beneficiaries are not restricted by location or limited facilities, enabling them to seek advanced treatment closer to home.
The initiative is also expected to improve health outcomes by encouraging early diagnosis and timely medical intervention, which often gets delayed due to financial constraints. With a substantial insurance cover of ₹10 lakh, families will be protected against high-cost treatments such as critical surgeries, specialised procedures and long-term care.
State officials said the scheme will be implemented through a streamlined and transparent process to ensure smooth enrolment and hassle-free cashless treatment. The Punjab government believes that the Mukhyamantri Swasthya Yojana will not only strengthen public trust in the healthcare system but also set a new benchmark for state-led health insurance programmes in the country.
