Fans of badminton and Bollywood recently noticed something unusual. While Saina Nehwal follows Parineeti Chopra on Instagram, the actor does not follow her back. This sparked curiosity online, with many wondering if the badminton champion felt hurt. Saina addressed the rumours during a candid conversation with Subhojit Ghosh on his YouTube channel. She explained that her interactions with Parineeti were purely professional.
Saina Nehwal On Parineeti Chopra Not Following Her On Instagram
Reacting to the Instagram situation, Saina said, “Actually, I did not notice this and na kabhi dhyan gaya hain ispe. Kyuki life has been so busy with my training and tournaments and events ki iss cheez pe dhyan nahi gaya. Jitna bhi baatein hui hain humari, it’s not like ki friends ban gaye the kuch… in a few sessions I was also like a professional telling her ki maine life mein kya-kya kiya, maine kuch bola hi nahi ki maine friendship kari thi ya kuch.”
DON'T MISS
In simple terms, she never paid much attention to the follow or unfollow issue. She added, “Whatever we talked it was not that we became friends. I told her what my life has looked like so far.”
Saina further clarified that her meetings with Parineeti were focused entirely on the biopic. She added, “It was totally a professional work for which she was there and I knew that. I was busy with my training, so that I also could not give so much time. Ki hum dinners ya lunch pe jaaye. Utna kabhi hua nahi. Jitna bhi 1-2 ghante mein, once in 2-3 weeks hum milke, director saab was there… and I explained to her about my journey and all that. Aisa kuch bhi nahi tha ki humne bohot time spend kiya taki hum friends ban sake, it was mostly about the work which she was about to do… But humne kuch zyada friendship nahi banayi thi to follow or unfollow.”
As of January 29, neither Saina nor Parineeti follow each other on Instagram. This confirms that their relationship remained strictly professional.
About Saina’s Biopic
The 2021 biographical film Saina tells the inspiring story of Saina Nehwal, from her childhood in Haryana to becoming the World Number 1 badminton player. The movie highlights her rigorous training, her parents’ sacrifices, her coach (a fictionalised character inspired by Pullela Gopichand), her marriage to fellow player Parupalli Kashyap, and her determination to overcome injuries and setbacks. The story concludes with her 2012 London Olympics bronze medal and her top ranking in 2015.
Parineeti Chopra’s portrayal of Saina received praise for her dedication and physical transformation. However, the film underperformed at the box office, earning around Rs 1.5 crore against a Rs 26 crore budget. Critics appreciated Chopra’s performance but noted the predictable script and the omission of certain real-life controversies. The film is available to stream on Prime Video.
