S Jaishankar: India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held diplomatic talks with Iran during rising tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed the discussions, saying they focused on energy security and the safety of maritime routes used by Indian vessels. However, officials refused to disclose further details about the talks.
Fears of disruptions in the world’s oil supply were heightened by geopolitical tensions involving Iran, the United States, and Israel at the time of the engagement.
Energy Concerns Were Raised by the Hormuz Crisis
Almost 20% of the world’s shipments of oil and liquefied natural gas pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Global markets can be swiftly impacted by any disruption in this narrow passage.
India, which imports a significant portion of its crude oil, expressed grave concerns about the availability of energy and the escalating cost of fuel. Jaishankar allegedly spoke with Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi several times during the crisis to address India’s worries about shipping safety.
The Oil Supply Is Stable
Indian oil tankers were able to cross the Strait without significant interference after these diplomatic efforts. Crude oil-carrying ships, including those headed for Mumbai, reportedly arrived at Indian ports without incident.
According to officials, in order to handle potential LNG shortages, India also took preventative measures like boosting coal consumption and issuing a Natural Gas Supply Order.
Despite the tense situation in the region, these combined measures seem to have helped India maintain stable energy supplies.
