8th Pay Commission: 61% DA Announcement On Cards By April 20? Will Country’s Central Govt Employees And Pensioners’ Wait Finally End?

8th Pay Commission: The DA hike would benefit about 6.8 million pensioners and 4.9 million central government employees. It is widely believed that the 8th Pay Commission would likely get implemented by mid-2027 or early-2028

8th Pay Commission: Central government employees and pensioners who have been waiting endlessly for the 8th Pay Commission may finally have some good news on the cards! The Union Government is likely to announce an increase in dearness allowance (DA) that would be effective from January 1, 2026. This means that all eligible central government employees as well as pensioners would receive arrears for previous months (January to March).

8th Pay Commission Update

According to several media reports, the Union Government is likely to increase the DA by 3 percent, making it 61 percent from the existing 58 percent. In October 2025, the dearness allowance was increased to 58 percent from 55, effective July 1, 2025.

How Much Would Your Salary Increase?

The calculation of dearness allowance is based on the basic salary of an employee. For instance, if your basic salary is Rs. 40,000 then at the current 58 percent DA, you would receive Rs. 23,200. However, at 61 percent DA, the amount would increase to Rs. 24,400.

This means an increase of Rs. 1200 every month. Moreover, arrears for 3 months would be added, making the amount to Rs. 3600 that may be received with April salary. Interestingly, you should remember that the amount of transport allowance and gratuity received also increase with an increase in dearness allowance.

The DA hike would benefit about 6.8 million pensioners and 4.9 million central government employees. It is widely believed that the 8th Pay Commission would likely get implemented by mid-2027 or early-2028. However, many believe that the government may push the implementation date to 2029 (the year of general elections in India). This would help the Union Government make a better push to millions of central government employees and pensioners in the country.

As of now, the biggest relief for about 6.8 million pensioners and 4.9 million central government employees is the news of a likely increase in DA amount.
